Louisiana jury convicts woman in Telemundo reporter's death

A Louisiana jury convicted Danette Colbert of negligent homicide and racketeering on Thursday in the death of Telemundo reporter Adan Manzano, who was visiting New Orleans to cover the Super Bowl. Her accomplice, Rickey White, was also convicted of racketeering but acquitted of manslaughter. Prosecutors said Colbert, 49, and White, 35, ran a criminal enterprise that targeted victims in the French Quarter, using drugs to incapacitate them and steal from their bank accounts. Colbert was the last person seen leaving Manzano's hotel room before he was found dead on February 5, 2025, from ingesting alcohol and Xanax. Colbert's negligent homicide conviction carries a maximum 10-year sentence, while racketeering carries up to 50 years. Both are scheduled for sentencing in late September. A third accomplice, Christian Anderson, testified against them in exchange for reduced charges. Manzano's death came a year after his wife died in a car accident, leaving behind a toddler daughter.
