Lipoedema: when empathy is the only treatment

There is no medical treatment for lipoedema, a condition causing abnormal fat deposition in the legs. Lipoedema, a genetic condition often triggered by hormonal changes, affects women and is characterized by swollen legs that spare the feet and hands. It does not respond to diet or exercise. Doctors may offer shared humanity and empathy when medical interventions are unavailable for conditions like lipoedema, which significantly impacts body image.
