In Chennai, a man known as Murugan, or Nondi Murugan, has been given a life sentence for throwing bombs at police officers. The attack happened in June 2001 when police came to arrest him. A special court in Poonamallee issued the verdict on Friday, and Murugan was sent to Puzhal prison. Murugan and six other men were involved in the incident that injured a sub-inspector, a head constable, and a bystander. The situation started from a property dispute between Prem Chand and Tharam Chand. Tharam Chand sent hired men to intimidate Prem Chand, leading him to call the police for help. When the police arrived at Prem Chand's home, the attackers threw homemade bombs. This resulted in injuries to the officers and another person. The police charged the attackers with attempted murder and using explosives. Among those arrested were Jagan, Sundar, Chinna Boobalan, and Hussain, along with Tharam Chand and Appu. Appu died in jail while serving time for a different crime. Hussain also passed away due to health issues. Three others were sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2016. Jagan has since escaped from bail.
