Lichtenberg plans roof for Hans-Zoschke-Stadion to end renovation deadlock

Berlin's Lichtenberg district plans to fund a partial roof for the Hans-Zoschke-Stadion, either through a new agreement with the Senate or its own budget, ending a years-long dispute that has blocked the renovation. The stadium's renovation has stalled since Lichtenberg 47's 2019 promotion to the Regionalliga, with a 500,000 euro allocation from 2021 expiring unused. A 2025 feasibility study estimated up to five million euros are needed, while club president Michael Grunst insists the original half-million would suffice. The dispute involves mutual blame between the club and district officials over planning hurdles and missed deadlines. Union Berlin's women's team may need the stadium as a temporary venue during renovations in 2027/2028, potentially accelerating the project.
