Les Birdies Golf Club celebrates 50 years of empowering Black women in golf

Les Birdies Golf Club, formed in 1976, celebrates nearly 50 years of supporting Black women and girls in golf. Founding member Barbara Cooksey recalls the challenges they faced in a less welcoming environment. The club has grown to include women of all skill levels, providing a supportive space for learning and competition. Membership chair Jackie Parker highlights the club's role in fostering confidence among players. Over the years, Les Birdies has awarded $50,000 in scholarships to young women, aiming to inspire future generations of Black golfers. The club continues to promote inclusivity and community service.
