Léglise appeals poultry farm expansion permit over truck traffic through Wittimont

The municipality of Léglise has filed an appeal with the Walloon minister against a permit granted by Neufchâteau for a poultry farm expansion near Namoussart, citing concerns over heavy truck traffic through the village of Wittimont. The appeal seeks mandatory truck routes via main roads and a ban on village transit. The permit, issued June 11, 2026, contains no conditions on truck routing. Léglise argues the impact study ignored actual GPS-directed traffic through Wittimont, which currently sees four daily convoys, potentially rising to five with expansion. Alternatives include a safer road requiring €631,000 in repairs, which the farm owners—relatives of Léglise's mayor—would bear. The appeal is non-suspensive, so the permit remains valid. Farm owner Aurélien Huberty disputes the concerns, stating most companies already use the RN825 route, with only one transporter occasionally passing through Wittimont. He notes the public inquiry drew no formal opposition and all procedural opinions were favorable.
