Lebanon's president hopes TotalEnergies will resume offshore oil and gas exploration soon
Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun expressed hope that TotalEnergies will soon restart oil and gas exploration off Lebanon's coast. This follows a ceasefire deal that ended conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which had previously halted drilling plans. In 2023, QatarEnergy joined TotalEnergies and Italy's Eni in a consortium to explore two maritime blocks. However, no oil or gas was found during exploratory drilling last year. Exploration efforts are now pending the formation of a new Lebanese government. Aoun's election in January ended a two-year presidential vacancy, which may facilitate reconstruction plans involving oil and gas exploration.
