Latvian wood pellet producers pledge to supply local residents first

Three Latvian wood pellet producers have committed to prioritizing local supply, signing a memorandum amid shortages and sharp price rises. Initiated by Climate and Energy Minister Jānis Vitenbergs, the memorandum commits SIA Palleteries, SIA Latgranula and SIA Baltic Wood Trade to ensure sufficient local supply, transparent pricing and prioritize consumer energy security. The minister urged other producers to join. Latvia is among the EU's largest pellet producers; about 40,000 households burn pellets yearly. Geopolitical events, supply shifts and rising European demand have recently driven prices up, limiting accessibility.
