Latvian culture minister calls for complete removal of Russian language from media

Latvian Culture Minister Nauris Puntulis called for the complete removal of Russian language content from Latvian media. He stated this during a parliamentary committee meeting. Puntulis believes that reducing Russian language content is insufficient, advocating for its complete elimination from Latvian media. Currently, Russian-language content constitutes about 2.5% of local media. Russians are a significant minority in Latvia, making up approximately 23.4% of the population. Previously, the ministry also ordered an end to Russian language use in public spaces by its subordinate institutions by the end of July.
