Latinas miss out on major beauty pageant titles in 2024

In 2024, Latin America did not win any major beauty pageant titles, a stark contrast to 2023 when three Latina women held crowns. The major titles this year went to contestants from Europe and Asia, with no representation from Latin America. The Miss World pageant crowned Krystyna Pyszkova from the Czech Republic, while Denmark's Viktoria Kjær Theilvig won Miss Universe. Indonesia and Vietnam celebrated their first major wins with Harashta Haifa Zahra and Huynh Thi Thanh Thuy, respectively. Miss Universe saw a record participation of 125 delegates, surpassing Miss World, which had 112. The Miss Universe pageant also introduced "continental queens," with the Philippines' Chelsea Manalo becoming the first Miss Universe Asia.
