LATAM Airlines resumes flights to world's most remote airport on Easter Island
Mataveri International Airport on Easter Island is the world's most remote airport, located over 2,600 kilometers from the nearest commercial airport. It has been operational since 1967 and is currently served only by LATAM Airlines Chile, which connects it to Santiago. After a two-year suspension due to the pandemic, LATAM resumed flights to Easter Island in August 2022. Flight frequencies have gradually increased, reaching an average of 10.5 flights per week in 2025, close to pre-pandemic levels. LATAM operates the route using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, with a mix of 787-8 and 787-9 models. The airline has scheduled 1,094 flights for the year, providing nearly 300,000 seats on this vital connection to the island.
