Largest District in South India: Prakasam in Andhra Pradesh

Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh is currently the largest district in South India, covering approximately 14,322 square kilometers. This is based on current district boundaries following the 2022 reorganization. The district is located in Andhra Pradesh's coastal region, bordered by the Bay of Bengal to the east. Its geography includes coastal plains, mountains, plateaus, and forests, with Ongole serving as its administrative headquarters. Previously, the undivided Anantapur district was considered the largest at 19,130 square kilometers, but it was split during the 2022 reorganization. Prakasam is named after freedom fighter Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu, also known as "Andhra Kesari."
