Lahore High Court Justice Raheel Kamran Sheikh resigns to pursue legal scholarship

Lahore High Court Justice Raheel Kamran Sheikh resigned on Thursday, citing a desire to pursue legal scholarship, policy research, and comparative judicial practice. His resignation letter, dated Sept 3, was sent to President Asif Ali Zardari under Article 206 of the Constitution. Justice Sheikh stated his years on the bench were formative and fulfilling, but after deep reflection, he concluded his growth as a jurist would be better served outside the judiciary. He thanked senior colleagues and staff, affirming his enduring commitment to the Constitution and rule of law. A London School of Economics graduate and Middle Temple barrister, he served as an LHC judge since May 2021. Previously, he was a Pakistan Bar Council member from 2016-2020 and chaired its Human Rights Committee. He was due to retire on Jan 30, 2036.
