Lagos launches £1.1 billion railway project to enhance urban mobility

Lagos is developing a major railway project called the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) to improve urban mobility. The project will feature seven lines and is expected to transport about 500,000 people daily when fully completed. The Blue Line opened in September 2023, and the Red Line began operations in March 2024. Each line has 13 stations, with three shared stations, and features modern amenities like electronic information screens. The total cost for the first two lines is estimated at £1.1 billion. Trains will operate with 12 to 16 carriages, accommodating up to 300 passengers per car.
