Kurukshetra court acquits businessman in cheque bounce case after settlement

A businessman convicted in a check bounce case was acquitted by an additional sessions court in Kurukshetra following a settlement with the complainant. The court overturned the 2022 conviction and sentence after finding the full cheque amount had been paid. The case involved Vinod Mittal of Narayangarh, Ambala, who was earlier sentenced to one year of simple imprisonment and ordered to pay double the cheque amount as compensation under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. During the appeal hearing, complainant Karamjeet Sandhu confirmed receiving the full payment and stated no claim remained against the accused. The court recorded statements from both parties and acquitted Mittal, also waiving the compounding fee. The settlement was described as voluntary, leading to the cancellation of the earlier conviction order.
