Koto musician Kazue Sawai dies at 85

Koto musician Kazue Sawai has died at age 85. She co-founded the Sawai Koto-gakuin school with her husband. Sawai, a graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts, studied under Michio Miyagi. She established the Sawai Koto-gakuin, an Ikuta-ryu koto school, in 1979 with her husband Tadao Sawai. Her wake will be held on February 19th and her funeral on February 20th in Tokyo. Her eldest son, Hikaru Sawai, will be the chief mourner.
