Kota-raised Sanjay Ghemawat leaves Google to co-found Discovery Loop

Sanjay Ghemawat, key Google engineer, left to co-found Discovery Loop with Jeff Dean, an AI startup to automate thousands of scientific experiments. Ghemawat, raised in Kota, Rajasthan, helped build Google File System, MapReduce and Bigtable during nearly three decades at Google. He and Dean had collaborated since DEC. Discovery Loop, backed by Alphabet, aims to automate scientific and engineering experiments. Born in Indiana to Indian parents, he was raised in Kota, studied at Cornell and MIT, and won the ACM Prize in Computing with Dean.
