Kochi Water Metro plans expansion with nationwide feasibility study
Kochi Metro Rail Limited has started a feasibility study to assess the potential for Water Metro ferry services in Kollam and 17 other locations across India. This follows a directive from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways. The study will evaluate areas with rivers, lakes, and coastal regions, including cities like Guwahati, Jammu and Kashmir, and various locations in Kerala and beyond. An in-house committee will lead the study, with external experts involved if necessary. The project aims to enhance urban transport using waterbodies, building on the success of the Kochi Water Metro. Detailed project reports will be created based on the study's findings to guide future developments.
