Knokke beach bar loses concession, owners appeal to Council of State

The operators of Lekkerbek Beach, a beach bar in Knokke-Heist, are taking legal action against the municipality after losing their concession for the 2027-2035 period. They are appealing to Belgium's Council of State. The bar, run by Alain De Clerck and his wife Annick for 39 years, was among 36 candidates competing for 25 concessions. The municipality says an independent jury awarded them based on quality, local anchoring, and added value for the coast. De Clerck claims his establishment, the only one without music, fits the quiet character of Het Zoute and has received strong public support. He expects other unsuccessful operators to file similar appeals.
