Klaus Iohannis ends his extended presidential term in Romania

Klaus Iohannis concluded his extended presidential term in Romania on February 12, 2025. His second term, originally set to end in December 2024, was prolonged by nearly two months following a Constitutional Court decision. Iohannis resigned to prevent a political crisis and a referendum on his potential impeachment. The resignation came amid efforts by opposition parties to suspend and remove him from office. Ilie Bolojan served as interim president until Nicușor Dan won the subsequent presidential election.
