KGMU study finds yoga treats irritable bowel
A new study from King George's Medical University (KGMU) indicates that practicing yoga alongside standard treatment can significantly alleviate symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Patients reported reduced abdominal pain and improved overall well-being. The study, published in the International Journal of Yoga, involved 165 IBS patients. Participants who incorporated yoga into their treatment experienced less stress and anxiety, along with improvements in digestion and daily functioning, compared to those receiving only conventional treatment. Researchers found that yoga helped manage both physical discomfort and emotional distress associated with IBS. They recommend consulting a doctor before starting yoga and tailoring the routine to individual health needs.
