KGMU study finds yoga eases irritable bowel syndrome

A new study from King George's Medical University (KGMU) indicates that practicing yoga alongside standard treatment can significantly ease symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The study found that yoga reduced both physical symptoms and stress levels in IBS patients. The research involved 165 IBS patients, with one group incorporating yoga into their treatment for three months. Those who practiced yoga reported less abdominal pain, improved digestion, and reduced anxiety compared to the control group receiving only conventional treatment. The study, published in the International Journal of Yoga, suggests yoga can be a valuable complementary therapy for IBS, improving both physical and mental well-being. Researchers advise consulting a doctor before starting a yoga routine.
