KFON to upgrade network and expand tribal broadband in Kerala

Kerala's state internet service provider KFON will upgrade its network and expand broadband connectivity to tribal communities, following administrative approval from the Electronics and Information Technology Department this week. The expansion scheme has received ₹7.72 crore this year to extend broadband to remote tribal areas, aiming to bridge the digital divide and create opportunities in education, employment, and entrepreneurship. A separate ₹22.44 crore has been allocated for the technical network upgrade and training for last-mile providers, including women and youth entrepreneurs. The upgrade will enhance connectivity in underserved rural areas through Mini-POPs and install solar power systems at identified POPs to reduce electricity costs and improve power reliability.
