Kerala will legally challenge Centre over withheld funds
Kerala will pursue legal action and protests to recover over Rs 1,500 crore in withheld central funds. The funds were allegedly withheld due to the state's refusal to sign the PM SHRI scheme memorandum. The state's Education Minister accused the central government of discrimination, planning to collaborate with Tamil Nadu. Kerala cites a Supreme Court ruling, asserting no legal obligation to implement the National Education Policy, which is linked to the PM SHRI scheme. The withheld funds impact various centrally sponsored schemes, including Samagra Shiksha Kerala. The state has previously appealed to the Union Education Minister without a positive response, prompting the current legal and protest strategy.
