Kerala opens crisis center for transgender people
A crisis intervention center for transgender individuals will open in Kakkanad, Ernakulam, offering immediate support and resources. The center aims to provide a safe space for those facing emergencies, including mental health support and legal guidance. The center, announced by the Minister for Social Justice, will be inaugurated on May 12th and will be staffed by trained counselors and a dedicated coordinator. It will also coordinate with other departments and have a 24-hour helpline. This initiative, part of Kerala's ongoing efforts in transgender empowerment, aims to address discrimination and provide holistic support, with funding allocated for building renovation and operational activities.
