Kerala government replaces attendance books with biometric system at Secretariat

The Kerala government has decided to phase out attendance books at the Secretariat, replacing them with a biometric punching system. This change follows an order from the General Administration Department, which states that employees no longer need to sign attendance books. Biometric punching has been implemented across all sections of the Secretariat. However, daily wage workers, contract employees, and those exempt from biometric punching due to family illness will still sign the attendance book. This move builds on a 2023 circular that made biometric punching mandatory for most employees. The implementation of this system has faced delays in the past due to opposition from trade unions.
