Kenyan MP Ndindi Nyoro says impeachment refusal ended his ties with Ruto

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has revealed that his refusal to participate in the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua marked the decisive turning point in his fallout with President William Ruto, potentially setting him on a path to challenge Ruto in the 2027 election. Nyoro said Ruto called him from New York during the impeachment process and asked him to sign the motion, but he declined out of conscience. He was subsequently removed as chairperson of the Budget and Appropriations Committee in March 2025 and later ejected from the committee entirely, with Ruto never personally explaining the changes. Nyoro dismissed speculation of political reconciliation with Ruto, stating their last political conversation was about the impeachment. He also rejected claims that his move to the People's Party aims to divide the Mt Kenya vote, while Ruto has denied orchestrating Gachagua's removal.
