Kenyan guard asks Ruto: call us security officers, not watchmen

A security guard asked President William Ruto to refer to private guards as security officers instead of watchmen, saying the change would restore their dignity. Speaking Thursday at State House before more than 5,000 private security guards, he requested higher pay and said “watchman” diminishes their dignity. His comments drew laughter, including from the president. The meeting is part of Ruto’s ongoing consultations with groups; Wednesday he met Muslim leaders, and Monday he hosted Friends Church representatives.
