Kellogg Fairbank III, former Chicago Maritime Museum director, dies at 83

Kellogg Fairbank III, former executive director of the Chicago Maritime Museum, has died at 83 from heart failure. He led the museum after its move to the Bridgeport Art Center in 2017, promoting interactive exhibits and environmental efforts. Fairbank had a diverse career in business and served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was involved in various industries, including manufacturing and waste management, before joining the museum. He retired in 2022 but remained active in community and cultural organizations. Fairbank was known for his passion for water sports and Chicago history. He is survived by his partner, two sons, and other family members. A private service will be held later this year.
