Keisha Lance Bottoms wins Georgia governor race, becoming first Black woman elected governor in U.S
Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms has won the Georgia governor's race, according to the Associated Press, becoming the first Black woman elected governor of a U.S. state. Bottoms, who served as Atlanta's mayor from 2018 to 2022, is also the first Black and first female governor of Georgia. She previously held roles in the Biden administration, including director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, before resigning in 2023. Her campaign prioritized Medicaid expansion, which she called her "number one priority," alongside proposals for a pause on new data center construction and a state-level voting rights act. She won the Democratic primary by over 37 points and was endorsed by Biden and Barack Obama.
