Katie Porter appointed to California community college board

Katie Porter has been appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom to a new position on California's community college board, despite previously declaring she was done with politics. The role pays $100 per day of official business and requires state Senate confirmation. Porter, a Democrat, lost the June gubernatorial primary with 4.4% of the vote, following her third-place finish in the 2024 U.S. Senate primary. She had announced in July she was finished with campaigning, briefly pivoting to book reviews before this appointment. The former congresswoman, known for using a whiteboard to question executives, faced controversy during her gubernatorial run, including bullying allegations and leaked footage of her berating a staffer. She served three terms in the House before leaving in 2025.
