Karnataka Transport Department resolves smart card issuance delays after system upgrade
The Transport Department in Karnataka has resolved delays in issuing driving licenses (DL) and registration certificates (RC) in Smart Card format. The delays were caused by an upgrade of the Smart Card printing system from version 1.0 to 2.0. Previously, many residents experienced long waits for their Smart Cards, with some waiting over two months. The department now aims to issue these cards within 10 days, as approximately 5,000 vehicles are registered and 4,000 driving tests are conducted daily. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy confirmed that DLs and RCs are now being issued smoothly through Aadhaar-based verification and online services. He noted that the department offers 31 transport-related services and addresses server issues promptly with the National Informatics Centre.
