Karnataka partners with Anthropic to train 200,000 in AI

Karnataka government asked Anthropic to co-develop certification programmes to train up to two lakh people in artificial intelligence, ahead of its proposed AI University. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar requested Anthropic’s help with curriculum, teaching content, and assessments. Minister Priyank Kharge said industry-government partnership could scale training beyond Anthropic’s solo reach. Certifications would be offered through universities including VTU, UVCE, and IIIT Bangalore. Discussions included Claude certification under NIPUNA, AI in healthcare with IISc, and enterprise adoption with data residency. Karnataka also sought subsidised Claude access for engineering students and PhD scholars.
