Karnataka Council Chairman considering resignation over conduct issues

Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti is considering resigning due to his dissatisfaction with the behavior of legislative members. He feels the conduct in the Upper House has damaged its dignity and ethics. Horatti has served in various capacities for 45 years and states this has been particularly painful for him. He faced significant challenges in managing the Council during chaotic sessions on March 19, 20, and 21, where eight bills were passed without proper discussion. Horatti expressed concern about how the current environment is disrespectful to senior leaders and undermines the reputation of the Upper House. While he is contemplating his resignation, close associates, including the Chief Minister and Governor, have urged him to reconsider. A decision will be made after a meeting on March 28. Horatti mentioned that his deputy chairman is also considering resigning if he does. Horatti criticized ongoing disruptions in the Council, particularly regarding the honey trap controversy, questioning why uproar persisted after a promise for an inquiry from the Chief Minister. He believes such discussions are inappropriate for the House and have hurt its credibility.
