Karnataka CM urges Bengaluru GCCs to file patents, not just close tickets

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar urged Bengaluru's global capability centres (GCCs) to focus on innovation and patent filing rather than routine back-office tasks, as he launched Bengaluru India Nano 2026 on Tuesday. Shivakumar said the state's next growth phase will be driven by nanotechnology, AI, semiconductors, biotechnology, quantum technologies, and advanced materials, with plans to build an ecosystem for rapid lab-to-industry collaboration. He emphasized that Bengaluru should evolve from software services to high-value research and intellectual property. The CM cited Bengaluru's scientific legacy, including the 1893 meeting between Jamsetji Tata and Swami Vivekananda that led to IISc's establishment, and urged universities to prioritize patenting and early industry partnerships. He also hailed Prof CNR Rao and stressed that technological progress must remain human-centric.
