Kaohsiung raises 150 million yen for Kumamoto quake relief

Kaohsiung City in Taiwan has collected approximately 150 million yen in donations from its citizens to support disaster relief efforts in Kumamoto following the earthquake. The city, which has friendly exchange ties with Kumamoto Prefecture and Kumamoto City, also provided aid during the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake. It donated 15 million yen immediately after the recent quake and, in cooperation with Kitakyushu City, delivered supplies like drinking water and hygiene products, and dispatched food trucks. Donations were accepted via a special account from July 30 to August 31, totaling 30.7 million Taiwan dollars. Mayor Chen Chi-mai stated that Kaohsiung and Japan are bound by family-like ties, always helping each other in times of difficulty. Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also collected over 1.5 billion yen as of August 24.
