Kanlaon Volcano erupts ash again as 21 earthquakes recorded in Negros Island

Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island has resumed ash emissions, with 21 volcanic earthquakes recorded recently. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) noted a sulfur dioxide output of 5,037 tons, slightly down from the previous day. The volcano's ash plume rose 150 meters above the crater, drifting southwest. Alert Level 3 remains in effect, indicating heightened volcanic activity. Residents within six kilometers of the summit are advised to evacuate. Kanlaon previously erupted on December 9, 2024, leading to increased alert levels. Negros Oriental is under a state of calamity due to the ongoing volcanic activity.
