Kanagawa braces for heavy rain, school closures, and train suspensions on Oct 7

Heavy rain is expected across Kanagawa Prefecture on the morning of the 7th, with the Yokohama Local Meteorological Office warning of a high risk of linear precipitation bands that could sharply increase the danger of landslide disasters. The peak of the rain may overlap with the morning commute, prompting many municipalities to open evacuation shelters early and decide on school closures on the 6th. Up to 250 millimeters of rain is forecast in western areas over 24 hours, with risks of flooding and river overflows. All public schools in Yokohama, Kawasaki, and Sagamihara will be closed on the 7th. Train services, including the JR Tokaido Line between Odawara and Atami and the Shonan-Shinjuku Line, will be suspended from the first train, with some limited express services canceled all day.
