K-RIDE, ICF sign MoU for 51 suburban trains in Bengaluru

K-RIDE signed a memorandum of understanding with the Integral Coach Factory on September 1 for the supply of 51 three-coach trains for the Bengaluru Suburban Transport Project, covering Corridors 2 and 4. The agreement, signed in Chennai, follows a May work order for 153 coaches. It includes design, manufacturing, testing, and RDSO approvals. The MoU was used instead of a Letter of Acceptance because ICF is a government agency. The project requires 306 coaches total, costing Rs 4,270.30 crore, shared equally by Karnataka and the railways. The first prototype is expected by late 2027, with Corridor 2 opening by December 2028.
