John Carpenter releases “Cathedral,” a graphic novel with an original album, on Friday, created with his son, godson, and wife outside the corporate movie business. The 78-year-old horror director wrote the spooky instrumental album with son Cody and godson Daniel Davies after dreaming of an abandoned Los Angeles church with an elevator to hell. His wife, comic publisher Sandy King, helped produce the graphic novel. Carpenter, known for “Halloween” and “The Thing,” said he prefers inexpensive creative projects because filmmaking is now corporate. He also dismissed AI’s ability to make genuinely moving music.
