Jipapad town in Eastern Samar requests food and livelihood aid after severe flooding

Jipapad, a town in Eastern Samar, is seeking food and livelihood aid after severe flooding from continuous rains starting January 10. The floods have affected nearly 10,000 residents and destroyed 48 hectares of rice fields, causing significant crop losses. The local government declared a state of calamity on January 12, allowing access to emergency funds. However, officials state that the available calamity fund is insufficient to meet the needs of affected families, particularly farmers. In addition to Jipapad, over 32,000 families in Eastern Samar and Northern Samar have been impacted by the floods. Local governments in Mindanao have also suspended classes due to ongoing heavy rains.
