Jharkhand ranks low in socio-economic indicators ahead of assembly elections

Jharkhand ranks poorly in many socio-economic indicators ahead of its Assembly elections on November 13 and 20. The state remains among the bottom three in various social metrics, with slight improvements in some areas since 2015-16. In education, Jharkhand shows mixed results. It improved in primary and secondary education but ranks low in higher secondary and college education. The state also has high rates of stunted children and infant mortality. However, Jharkhand made significant progress in household insurance coverage, rising from 13.3% in 2015-16 to 50.3% in 2019-21. Environmentally, it ranks well, generating the least plastic waste among major states.
