Jhansi disconnections target smart meter users with unpaid bills

Jhansi residents with smart meters are experiencing power disconnections for unpaid electricity bills. Over 100 connections are being cut daily. Smart meters installed in Jhansi are automatically disconnecting power for consumers with two months of unpaid bills or debts exceeding 5,000 rupees. The electricity department is actively installing these meters across the city. The new smart meters are currently operating on a postpaid system, with plans to transition to prepaid. Approximately 26,000 meters have been installed so far, with more planned.
