Jeffries backs Hegseth impeachment, citing national security risks
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced Sunday he is a "hard yes" on impeaching Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, citing alleged abuse of power and the Iran war. He predicted "incredibly strong support" among Democrats for the resolution. Jeffries said Hegseth has "undermined our national security" and made the country less safe. He expects House Democrats to discuss the matter Tuesday, their first meeting since the midterm election. Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie plans to reintroduce a privileged impeachment resolution as early as Monday. Massie's resolution includes eight articles of impeachment against Hegseth, including violating the War Powers Resolution of 1973. President Donald Trump has defended Hegseth, saying he has "done a fantastic job" and intends to keep him. Hegseth dismissed the effort as "politics of personal destruction."
