Jaggu Bhagwanpuria transferred from Punjab to Assam jail

Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, a jailed gangster linked to the murder of singer Sidhu Moose Wala, has been transferred from Bathinda Central Jail in Punjab to Silchar Jail in Assam. This move was executed by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act. Bhagwanpuria is accused of being involved in 128 serious crimes, including extortion and high-profile murders, since 2012. The NCB believes he has been operating international drug networks from behind bars. They say he managed to stay in contact with drug operatives in countries like Canada, the United States, and Pakistan. This is the fourth detention of a drug smuggler from Punjab under the PIT-NDPS Act. The Act allows authorities to hold suspects without bail for up to a year. In the past, the NCB has also moved other drug lords from Punjab, like Akshay Chhabra and Jaspal Singh, to Dibrugarh Jail in Assam, as part of their efforts to dismantle drug syndicates linked to Punjab prisons. Officials believe that moving these criminals to Assam will disrupt their operations. They stated that during their time in the Assam Jail, the detainees will experience actual imprisonment conditions. Bhagwanpuria has had a rivalry with another gangster, Lawrence Bishnoi, who is also connected to the Moose Wala case. Bishnoi was moved to a jail in Gujarat last year.
