Italy's antitrust watchdog fines Bird, Dott, and Lime €2.675 million over Rome free rides

Italy's antitrust authority fined Bird, Dott, and Lime a total of €2.675 million for hindering free ride passes promised to Rome public transport subscribers. The operators’ inadequate handling of requests made pass activation difficult and time-consuming, cutting the time users could benefit from them. Bird was also found to have arbitrarily deactivated accounts without prior notice. The probes, opened in November 2025, covered service obligations from 2023 to 2026. Consumer group Codacons says it is evaluating legal action to seek compensation for affected Metrebus subscribers.
