Irwindale Speedway announces closure after 25 years of racing events
Irwindale Speedway & Dragstrip, a key venue for NASCAR and drag racing in Southern California, will close on December 21. The announcement follows years of uncertainty about the racetrack's future amid proposals for redevelopment. The speedway has been a popular gathering place for racing fans for 25 years. It has hosted various events, including demolition derbies and festivals, while providing a legal space for car enthusiasts amid concerns over illegal street racing. Despite previous plans to demolish the racetrack for commercial development, the closure marks the end of an era. The final events include the Farewell Extravaganza on December 21, featuring NASCAR races and other activities. Tickets will go on sale November 8.
