Irish mortality rates show rise in cancer deaths and fall in tuberculosis deaths over a century

Irish mortality rates have shifted significantly over the past century, with cancer deaths rising and tuberculosis deaths declining. A Central Statistics Office study reveals overall death rates dropped from 1,474 per 100,000 in 1922 to 675 per 100,000 in 2023. Cancer deaths increased from 84 to 194 per 100,000. Life expectancy has risen substantially, and deaths in younger age groups have dramatically decreased since 1922.
