IRCTC requires Aadhaar authentication for online general ticket bookings starting October 1, 2025

economictimes.indiatimes.com

Starting October 1, 2025, only Aadhaar-authenticated users can book reserved general train tickets online during the first 15 minutes of booking. This new IRCTC guideline aims to prevent misuse of the ticket reservation system by unscrupulous elements. The rule applies only to online bookings, not to PRS counter reservations. Previously, Aadhaar authentication became mandatory for Tatkal ticket bookings from July 1, 2025, with OTP verification introduced for counter and agent bookings from July 15, 2025.
