Iranian diplomat in Vienna seeks asylum in Switzerland

An accredited Iranian diplomat in Vienna has reportedly broken ties with the regime in Tehran and sought asylum in Switzerland. The diplomat previously served as Chargé d’affaires in Prague, advocating for sanctions relief and positive views on nuclear talks. He is not currently listed on the Iranian mission's staff in Austria. This follows a similar report in January of an Iranian diplomat in Geneva seeking asylum, amid fears of repercussions from the brutal crackdown on recent protests in Iran, which may have resulted in up to 30,000 deaths.
